Music & Family Fun at the 2013 Blues in da Parish Festival
The weather was perfect and the music was even better at the Blues in da Parish Festival which was held October 26, 2013 at Docville Farm in Violet. After a rousing opening performance by Mark Pentone & Smoky Greenwell, festival attendees were treated to free live music from some of Louisiana’s best blues musicians including the Will Wesley Band, the Coco Robicheaux Spiritland Band Tribute, Paula & the Pontiacs, John Lisi & Delta Funk, and the Alabama Slim Blues Revue.
Sunny skies, great music and delicious food came together to make this year’s event a wonderful afternoon of family fun. “We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day, and the Docville Farm venue is the perfect setting for the Blues in da Parish Festival,” said organizer Iray Nabatoff. “We hope everyone had a great time, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event.”
In addition to good food and talented musicians, this year’s Blues in da Parish Festival also featured a 50-50 raffle and a Parade of Prizes, along with a coloring contest and a visit from the Audubon Zoo’s Wetlands Express Mobile Van for the kids.
New Orleans author Elsa Hahne was also on hand to discuss her latest book “The Gravy: In the Kitchen with New Orleans Musicians”. Later in the day, the Crescent City Harmonica Club’s free Harmonica Workshop was a big hit with parents and kids alike. And the Boogie Booth photo booth helped festival goers capture some great memories of this year’s event.
